MX (Mail eXchanger) records are DNS records that direct email to the correct server for your domain. This guide will walk you through configuring your MX records and email routing in cPanel using SpamExperts.
Understanding MX Records
MX records consist of a priority and a destination. The priority determines the order of preference for your MX destinations, with the lowest priority being the first port of call when another mail server tries to send an email to your domain. The destination must be a Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN), meaning it must be resolvable by the public DNS to an IP address.
Brixly Hosting's Default MX Records
By default, Brixly Hosting uses the following MX records:
mx1.spamfiltering.io - priority 10 mx2.spamfiltering.io - priority 20
Accessing and Managing Your MX Records
To access your MX records, log into your cPanel account and navigate to 'Domains' > 'Zone Editor'. Here, you can add, view, or edit existing MX records for your domain.
Configuring Email Routing
In addition to setting up your MX records, you also need to configure your email routing. This can be done in the following screen...
cPanel -> 'Email' > 'Email Routing'
Typically, your MX records will be configured to route your incoming mail via our SpamExperts mail filtering system (mx1.spamfiltering.io and mx2.spamfiltering.io). In this case, your Email Routing should be set to 'Local Mail Exchanger'.
Please note that setting the Email Routing in cPanel differs from setting the SpamExperts Destination.
Setting Up SpamExperts Destination
Setting your MX records to mx1.spamfiltering.io and mx2.spamfiltering.io will direct incoming mail to our spam filtering system, but you must also ensure that the filtering system knows which Brixly server to deliver your cleaned email to. You do this by adjusting the Delivery Destination in SpamExperts.
Following these steps, you can configure your MX records and email routing in cPanel using SpamExperts, ensuring your emails are properly directed and filtered.
